In the process of influenza virus production the final product, influenza viruses of approx. 100 nm diameter, are in suspension together with cell debris (mammalian cells), microcarrier, proteins, DNA and medium components (salts, vitamins, amino acids, glucose). Our aim is to quantify and characterize the virus particles in this suspension during the production and th purification by filtration and chromatography. For this, a new separation method: asymmetric flow field flow fractionation (AFFFF) together with the detection by multi-angle light scatter is studied. A short introduction into this method is given, focussing on difficulties for th question.
